旧尾崎テオドラ邸

The former Ozaki Theodora Residence is a light blue Western-style house built in 1888 and relocated to Gotokuji in 1933.

This Western-style house was scheduled for demolition in the summer of 2020, but its preservation was secured by the support of local residents and the more than 4,000 signatories of the online appeal.

The "General Incorporated Association Former Ozaki Residence Preservation Project" was established by cartoonist Kazumi Yamashita and Nami Sasao. The two representatives invested almost all of their assets to acquire the land and house, and the Western-style house became the property of the incorporated association. This acquisition ensured the preservation of the Western-style house, though it was acknowledged that, despite its architectural integrity, the structure would inevitably succumb to the passage of time. The undertaking to maintain and restore the building was deemed to be financially prohibitive. Consequently, a collaborative effort was initiated, leveraging crowdfunding and securing financial support from multiple comic book artists. This initiative has been instrumental in launching a comprehensive preservation project, fostering hope for the future of this significant heritage asset.
