Takumi Nagayasu
Born in 1949. Inspired by Tetsuya Chiba, he aspired to become a manga artist. He rose to fame with the 1973 serialization of Ai to Makoto (Love and Truth, original story by Ikki Kajiwara).
Since his debut, Nagayasu has insisted on drawing every element himself—figures, backgrounds, and intricate details—without the help of assistants.
His magnum opus Mibu Gishi Den (When the Last Sword Is Drawn, original story by Jirō Asada), completed over 14 years, is a masterpiece born from meticulous research, vividly portraying the spirit of samurai at the end of the Edo period.
In recognition of this work, he received the 53rd Japan Cartoonists Association Award and the Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology Award in 2024.
